Frequently asked Questions
FAQ: Specialist Online Treatment for OCD, BDD & Health Anxiety
1. Is Online CBT as effective as meeting in person?
Yes. Extensive clinical research shows that for OCD and Anxiety disorders, online CBT is just as effective as face-to-face therapy. In my 30 years of practice, I have observed that many clients actually progress faster online because they feel safer and more regulated in their own environment, allowing us to dive deeper into the clinical work sooner.
2. How do we do "Exposure Work" (ERP) over Zoom?
Actually, Zoom is a powerful tool for ERP. If your compulsions or "checking" rituals happen in your kitchen, bedroom, or bathroom, we can take the laptop or phone there together. I can coach you through exposures in real-time, in the exact places where your anxiety is most triggered. This leads to "generalization"—meaning your progress sticks better in your real life.
3. I have BDD; I find being on camera very distressing. Can we still work together?
This is a very common concern. Because I specialize in Body Dysmorphic Disorder, I understand that the camera itself can feel like a trigger. We can: Start with audio-only sessions. Use "Hide Self-View" so you don't have to see your own image. Slowly work toward camera usage as part of our therapeutic goals. We move at a pace that is clinically effective but manageable for you.
4. Is my privacy protected?
Absolutely. I use a professional, encrypted version of Zoom specifically designed for healthcare. I conduct all sessions from a private, soundproofed home office. Your data and our conversations are protected under strict GDPR and clinical confidentiality guidelines.
5. What if my internet connection drops during a session?
In three decades of practice, I’ve learned to always have a "Plan B." If the video fails, we immediately switch to a telephone call so your therapeutic space is never interrupted. We will establish these "Safety Protocols" in our very first session.
